The North-West Passage Expedition
More than 120 years after Roald Amundsen’s historic expedition, a new voyage begins through the legendary Northwest Passage aboard Alma af Frøya.
More than a century ago, Roald Amundsen and his small crew set out into the unknown, determined to become the first to navigate the legendary Northwest Passage.
For nearly three years they battled ice, isolation, and the unforgiving Arctic before finally completing one of the greatest feats in exploration history.
Now, more than 120 years later, we follow in their wake. Aboard Alma af Frøya , a faithful replica of Amundsen’s ship Gjøa. This voyage retraces the historic route through some of the most remote and awe-inspiring landscapes on Earth. It is not simply a journey through the Arctic, but a chance to experience the spirit of exploration that once carried Amundsen and his crew into the unknown.
Our familiy legacy is the very foundation of Amundsen Adventure & Arctic Ocean Lodge. Roald Amundsen respected and learnt from the Inuits, while exploring cutting edge technology
We are inspired by his approach to innovation through tradition – Alma represents the heritage and culture through sail and traditional seamen craft proven through numerous expeditions in arctic waters
The location of Arctic Ocean Lodge is next to “Bjørnskinn” on Andøya where one of the crew members Helmer Hansen on Gjøa where born, hence we are bringing with us our cultural legacy
